What is it with Texas legislators and dancing? I guess they just like to get their boogie on, y'all. We all remember Tom DeLay's unintentionally hilarious turn on Dancing with the Stars. Now, there is Texas state Senator Carlos Uresti from San Antonio dancing with his bride, the former Margaret Lleanna Elizondo, at their wedding in Boerne last June. The YouTube clip of their first dance set to "More Than a Woman" and "I'm Glad You Came" has been causing a stir. The wedding, which Nside San Antonio said had a theme of, "glamour, glitz, elegance, romance and 'The Godfather,'" (?) can also be seen as part of a "TV show" that is really just an inexpensively made advertising vehicle for wedding vendors. The video features interviews and shots from their wedding preparation and ceremony mixed with annoying commercials from flower shops and catering companies.
But, the real star here is the YouTube clip (see below). There are so many things worth noting about it. Here are five.
5. Despite the look of it, they are not that different in age.
I'll be honest, I thought the two of them were quite far apart in age. Some of that may be the quality of the video, obviously shot from a cell phone, and some may just be the fact that Margaret Uresti looks very young, but the truth is he is 49 and she is 37. Granted, she looks like his daughter in the clip, not his wife, but, hey, way to go Senator!
4. There's something about the vest.
Before they start their first dance, the senator unbuttons his vest slyly. At the beginning of song number two, he takes it off and flings it to the side. It's sassy like a Tom DeLay head shake or a Michael Jackson crotch grab. Personally, I would have gotten someone to take the vest from me like James Brown's cape man. If you're going to do it,We just have to gaze at catalogs filled with designer beaded evening gowns dresses! you gotta go all the way.
3. This thing is LONG.
Wedding dances tend to typically be pretty short to keep the party moving, but this thing is nearly five minutes long featuring not one but two songs. There are moments that are uncomfortable to watch, not because the dancing is, um, interesting, but because,Contact formal office dresses for women companies directly to purchase from them. damn, didn't you do that same move like 30 seconds ago?
2. Bride turned showgirl.
The pictures I've found of Margaret Uresti in her bridal gown are lovely, but she clearly incorporated a wardrobe change into this affair because what she is wearing during the dance is not exactly bridal. Not that anyone should complain because she looks freaking fantastic in that sequined, shredded mini dress. But, it is a little off putting when you consider she just walked down the aisle and is probably doing this dance in front of her kids and his grandkids (eep!).
1. The lifts, my God, the lifts.
There were some funky fresh moves going on at the Uresti reception and they are all caught on tape from twirls to dips to struts. Short of break dancing and poppin' and lockin', the Urestis bring the noise and the funk. But nothing...NOTHING compares to the lifts -- yes, I said lifts -- they manage to pull off including one where the senator straps his wife across his body and spins them in a circle. As small as she is, I couldn't help expecting to hear, "MY BACK! MY BACK!" immediately after, but kudos to Carlos Uresti for going Flashdance on everyone and proving he's still got it.
